The QBR Is Hard Because the Quote Was Not Structured

A quarterly business review has nothing to report against if the sold work was never captured.

That is an MSP quote structure problem, not a slide problem. The CSM can rebuild a story from tickets and memory. That is not a QBR. That is a reconstruction.

The quote is where the customer said yes. If that record is fifty disconnected rows, there is no group for onboarding versus monthly, no phase, and no note that says what “done” meant. The review then invents the structure the quote never had.

Why MSP quote structure is the QBR source

Most QBR advice starts in the meeting. Agenda. Metrics. A roadmap slide. That is late.

The meeting can only report what the quote already named. Three things have to be on the quote before the customer signs:

1. Groups that match how the work is delivered.
2. Services named the way delivery will execute them.
3. Notes that do not fit in a CRM field.

Without those, the QBR has no baseline. Ticket counts are not the sold work. A portal chart is not the sold work. The quote is.

What a structured quote gives the review

A structured Salesforce quote is the first reporting artifact.

– Onboarding is a group, not a guess.
– Monthly service is a group, not a leftover row.
– A phase has a start and a definition of done.
– The note that explained the exception is still on the record.

Then the QBR can point at the quote. Delivered against this group. Not delivered against that one. Scope changed here. That is a review. The other version is a conversation with no source.

What to do this week

Open the last three quotes you sent. Ask one question of each: could a CSM who was not in the sales call report against it?

If the answer is no, the quote did not finish its job. AgileQuote keeps that structure on the Salesforce quote object you already use.

FAQ

**Why does an MSP QBR fall apart in the room?**
Because the sold work was not structured on the quote. The review has nothing to point at.

**What is MSP quote structure?**
Groups that match delivery, services named the way the work will run, and notes that do not fit in a CRM field.

**Is a ticket report a QBR?**
No. A ticket report is what you touched. A QBR is what you sold, then what you delivered against it.
